Christmas Eve 2008, far from home and family--doesn't that sound like a missionary experience? "All these things shall be for thy good," applied to us this year as our temple family shared an enriching evening at the home of Wilberth and Blanca Acosta with their grown children and extended family.
Pres. Dyer knew where they lived, so we arrived during a tender moment while they were still talking to their missionary son, Jose, in Mexico City.
The Oropezas and Smiths had to ask directions, so they came a little later. After introductions and admiring the Christmas decorations in their home, we sat at tables outside on this beautiful evening and began a short Family Home Evening. We sang "Silent Night" while President Dyer accompanied us on the harmonica.
Bro. Acosta shared his feelings about the sacredness of Christmas, and told us that the Mexican government had asked the piñata makers to not make Santas, but to make stars instead this year.
During the dinner, Bro. Acosta and Blanca related the miracles that made possible their temple wedding in Los Angeles, 34 years ago this January, and Blanca brought out their wedding album. It is always good to hear the experiences of the pioneers in the Church in this area.
Christmas really is in the heart, as we felt the "peace on earth and good will toward men" that love brings at this season or any other.
