That was me a week ago....
The Oropeza-Smith couples came back from a drive and reported seeing many flamingos in the marshlands northeast of Mérida. Then they took the Soto-Sánchez sisters to see the flamingos. I just knew Gerhard would enjoy seeing some of nature, but he insisted that it was too hot and he was too busy to go --until his "friends" helped :)
Bro. Oropeza had our car washed and waxed so the "corazón de pollo" would have a coche and not a garra to take his eternal sweetheart for a drive. Then he took Gerhard's morning appointment with the maintenance people so he would not have the excuse of work to keep him home. Elder and Sister Smith guaranteed they could guide the driver so he wouldn't get lost going and coming. Even the weather cooperated with an overcast day, and the sea breeze kept us pleasantly cool.
There they are! Several miles of feeding flamingos. They were farther from the road than we hoped, but we watched them wading, eating, flying, and heard them calling (similar to a duck's quack).
We actually got out of the house and had a fun morning without an appointment.
Funny flamingo walk. Gerhard does a good imitation.
Good guides! Steve and Cheryl made sure we got to see the flamingos, laughed a lot and relaxed--plus, got home in time to bathe and go to the temple.
Before the fresh fish dinner was served at Los Cocos restaurant in Progreso. Elder Smith labeled this picture "Doofy Schill."
