Since we became missionaries we have stopped watching live TV programs and we don't go out on the street to buy a newspaper. Most of our news comes in the form of headlines on the Internet or postings from conservative and health sites. Is that good or bad?
Our attention is on the things of the temple and not the world, while around us people are living in the things of the world, which influences their ability and desire to attend the temple. Sometimes we forget that, I think. Thank goodness we have the gardeners who give us their ideas, sardonic and otherwise, about what is happening.
This topic comes to mind because today we were coming back from picking up the results of Gerhard's lab tests and saw a sign on a bus announcing the visit of Felipe Calderón to Mérida on Feb. 25! That is today!!

Y al final todo fue felicidad. Después de las disputas y fricciones, el evento que el presidente Felipe Calderón Hinojosa presidió en el Polifuncional de San José Tecoh transcurrió en calma.
No hubo abucheos y silbidos, sólo aplausos. El Presidente, poco antes del acto en el que se amplió el padrón del programa "Oportunidades", pidió respeto y se cumplió.

Parents are hoping to be able to provide a living for their families and young people want to gain the necessary education to support themselves in the future.
Other news is the weather-- Mérida expects to have about 40 "nortes" during its "winter" season from December to March. Yesterday was very cold and rainy in the afternoon, and still sprinkling when we went to the temple.
There were few patrons, and the baptism groups were small. Everyone expressed the idea that the weather had kept others from attending who might have come.

It passed without our even being aware of it, except as we stamped the date on the completed ordinance cards for the temple work that was completed.
