Chris and Elena drove calmly to Tucson on Wednesday, January 14, 2008 for an early morning appointment. Their baby was already more than a week "overdue," so they had arranged for the delivery to be induced. All proceeded normally until the baby's heart rate dropped extremely low and it was determined that an emergency C-section was necessary. Hospital personnel responded rapidly, and in a short time, Chris sent this picture and message to announce the birth of their son...

Jean dietrich, jd, 2:02 pm 8 lbs 8 oz 20.5 inches

By 7:00 P.M. JD was beginning to show signs of becoming quite handsome, and we can see that his mommy has fallen in love with him already.

The next day he was all bundled up and "sleeping like a baby"for this picture.

Here is some background for his names that the proud parents gave the family. "Jean is for Chris' Dad Othello Jean, and Dietrich is for Elena's Dad, Gerhard Dietrich. We knew we wanted to call him by initials only, so the order came down to we liked the sound of JD vs DJ a little better, so don't feel bad Dad. :) So, JD is a French/German name, which shows his heritage and he is named after his 2 best Grandpa's who are tremendous examples of good."
Chris's "new toy."Saturday night we were at the temple, but we were glad to see this text message before we went to bed: "We are home lane was excited to see JD we are having to do the bedtime routine early tonight for everyones sake so i wont call until sun."

Baby brother and Lane and Dad--sheltered in Dad's arms. Wonderful picture.
