A record day at the temple!
Saturday, September 20, 2008 was a day that will be a landmark for Pres. Dyer to tell about for some time. There were over 3,880 ordinances performed on that day.

Earlier in the month it became apparent that there would be a huge crowd coming to the temple that morning. Three stakes were assigned to that day, and a fourth wanted to come then, also. It was the turn for Cancun (4 hours away), Cozumel (a little island east of the Yucatan peninsula which means the members start their journey by boat) and Ticul (about 2 hours away) stakes to bring youth and adults, and Chetumal stake ( in the state of Quintana Roo farther down the eastern coast than the map shows, about 6 hours away) put itself into the line-up also.
We arrived at the temple at 4:00, and a bus from Chetumal was already there with people out on the grounds. They had begun their trip about 10:00 P.M. the night before in order to be at the temple early.
Gerhard had arranged a plan to allow every stake to have an equal opportunity to participate in sessions or do other ordinances. The people from Chetumal had to wait a little while while those who were scheduled to come and all the workers and office people got organized. The next stakes to arrive were Cancun and then Cozumel. By then we were running half an hour late, but everyone had something to do. The office staff was printing off cards of family names for ordinances, the young people were bursting the seams of the baptistry, people were waiting in every room that wasn't being used, and I had to smile to see two women sharing the same chair in the hall.
We were able to have 5 sessions until about 2:00 P.M. when the buses started to leave. Then it was time to clean up the rooms to get ready for the evening sessions when two local stakes would come for baptisms and two sessions.
We came home to sleep for a couple of hours and then went back about 8:00 P.M.to finish up the office work and laundry so that Pres. Oropeza could leave early and take his wife out to hear the mariachis for her birthday.
