Calkini México District Conference November 8, 2009

The Sunday meeting was held in Maxcanú, a nearby town that has more seating capacity in their casa de oración. Actually it is like a warehouse, and the sound system was set up by a local company while we waited for the meeting to start.
As we walked up the entrance, we were greeted by a brother. Gerhard asked him why he had the crutches, and he told us it was because he only had one wheel. As we talked, his positive spirit impressed us. He drives big trucks that are fitted so he uses the brake and a hand control for the clutch. His motto "Querer es poder".

The next week, a little curly-haired woman came up to me in the dressing room at the temple and told me she was the wife of the man who had only one leg! We have new friends.
This little girl sat on the front row at the conference. She was very happy to shake hands with us and showed her big smile that will help her when she is a missionary.
Elder and Sister Smith are always ready to go for a ride, and we appreciate their help in guiding us in new situations. They enjoy meeting the members too, and it helps us remember the members when they come to the temple.

After the meeting Gerhard talked with Pres. Castro of the district and Pres. Cardenas of the mission while the members from the small branches (Halacho, Dzitbulche,Coahuila, and Hecelchakan) greeted each other. We see why it is important to have conferences and group activities even though it requires sacrifice for the members to attend, because the Spirit is strong as they get together and fortify each other for the next several months.

When it was time to go, the members who had come by bus gathered. Gerhard took the opportunity to shake hands and the youth posed for pictures.
